Given the rapidly evolving nature of communication as fueled by technology and a more global economy, it has become ever the more important to understand the important nuances of interacting with others. More than ever before are the separate worlds of private life and public becoming visible to one another and having mutual influence. The ubiquity and exposure from recent technologies such as texting, facebook, and twitter have made casual articulation meant for friends increasingly available to would be employers, and not always to the desired results. With competition for work abound and an unemployment rate hovering steadily around 9%, a misplaced personal message is the last thing someone wants to be the deciding factor between them and a job, which is why Move Over Mountains has created a curriculum to meet the challenges at-risk-youth face in getting their message across.
Designed to address the pragmatics of public persona and the unique position of at-risk-youth, both on the Internet and in person, this 4 tiered series of courses “peaks” looks at building the skills for effective communication. Addressing subjects like public speaking and presenting, social networking, effective writing, managing communication, assertiveness, and behavior strategies for miscommunication, this lecture series imbues an ability to manage the dizzying realm of human interchange and use that skill to acquire a job.
