With the continued sluggish job market and the glut of talent in competition for work, job hunting is no easy task in the current economy, especially for at-risk-youth who more often than naught have a lack of formal work history. So with a hiring climate already maligned against inexperienced workers, professional skills and the ability to communicate them effectively in the interview and onsite have become even more important to this vulnerable population.
Identifying a myriad of professional skills necessary for a broad cross section of entry level careers, Move Over Mountains has designed a curriculum to help teach and practice them so when the chance for an interview comes, the individual is prepared. Looking at a broad inventory of capabilities for both getting and succeeding at the job, the coursework “peaks” covers subjects like resume writing and building, interview skills, technology literacy, defining a problem, summarizing information, and handling detail work to name a few.
Lessons, while covering a broad scope, seek to help demonstrate the universality of basic core communication and problem solving skills while helping individuals narrow their job search for the best possible chance for successful employment and sustained personal growth.
